Mrs. Della E. Cretcher, the youngest daughter of John and Jane Hales, was born in Clayton County, Iowa, Dec. 16, 1864, and died Oct. 21, 1896. Soon after her birth her parents moved with her to Van Buren County, Iowa where she resided until the time of her death. She married John Cretcher, February 10, 1886, and for more than ten years was a devoted and loving wife. After watching over the bedside of her husband for more than five weeks she was stricken with the same disease, typhoid fever and after an illness of three weeks, she passed to her Heavenly home. The funeral services took place from the M.E. church at Cantril, Rev. C.R. Norton of Hedrick, her former pastor, preaching from Isaiah 10-3. She was converted during the ministry of Rev. Norton at Cantril and has since lived a consistent and devoted chrisitan life. She leaves a husband, father and mother, three brothers and two sisters. The solicitous inquiries during her illness, the many weeping friends who gathered about the lifeless form and the beautiful floral offerings were evidences or the high esteem and endearment this faithful life had won, and many hearts sympathize with the stricken husband in his bereavement. "She left the glory of her life in the hearts of those she served."
