Randolph Cox

Randolph Cox an aged and respected citizen of Mountain Grove (MO) died at his home Sept. 3, 1901. Randolph Cox was born in Jefferson County, Indiana, April 7, 1821. In 1827 his parents removed to Sangamon County, IL, remaining there eleven years when the family moved to Menard County. In 1846 when trouble arose between the United States and Mexico, he enlisted in Company F, 4th Illinois Volunteera and was placed under Brigadier-General Shields in General Taylor's army. He served in the Mexican war until sickness caused his discharge.

In June 1847, Mr. Cox emigrated to Van Buren County, Iowa. There he married Sarah McIntosh April 22, 1849. In 1883 with his family he came to Missouri and located at Carthage, remaining there one year when he came to Mountain Grove (MO) and has since made this his home. June 7, 1894 his wife died and afterwards he went to Nebraska and resided there until last spring when his health failing he was brought back to this city and had since lived with his daughter, Mrs. Mack Cassil. He was father of nine children, all of whom are now living: Argus, who is judge of this judicial circuit; Harvey R., Tacoma, Wash.; Mrs. Juliet Thomas, Emporia Kansas; Mrs. Clarinda Anson, Willow Springs, MO; Mrs. Florence Goos, Waynesville, IL; Mrs. Dora Frye, Norman, Okla; Alonzo, Keosauqua, Iowa; Mrs. Carrie Cassil and Mrs. Alice Ellis of this city. Of the above children, Argus, Alonzo and Mrs. Anson of the non-residents were present at the funeral. Deceased joined the Methodist church when 16 years of age.
