H. Clay Frost

H. Clay Frost, 83, of Route 6, died Wednesday, at Ottumwa Hospital. He had been an employe of John Morrell and co. for 50 years prior to his retirement in 1953.

He was born Dec. 23, 1888, in Jefferson County, Mo., the son of James M. and Nancy A. Gilbert Frost. He had been a resident of the Ottumwa area most of his life.

He was a member of the Davis Street Christian Church, Empire Lodge No. 269 AF and AM, the Scottish Rite Bodies and the Kaaba Shrine, both in Davenport, and the Quarter Century Club of John Morrell and Co.

He was first married to Ethel M. Chadwick who died in 1918. He later married Avis I. Morris, who died in 1966.

Surviving are two sons, Dwight E. and Norman H., both of Ottumwa; one daughter, Mrs. Viola L. James, of Ottumwa; three stepsons, John H. Morris of Chillicothe, Ill., Charles E. Morris and Rex E. Morris, both of Ottumwa; 21 grandchildren, and 35 greatgrandchildren; one brother, Lloyd Frost of Ottumwa; and two sisters, Mrs. Helen Reeves of Ottumwa and Mrs. Hazel Singleton in California. He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:30 at the Johnson Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Cecil Simonton of the Davis Street Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery where Masonic services will be held. The casket will be closed at the beginning of the service.

Pallbearers will be Harvey Strader, Harry Davis, Raymond Stainer, Charles Shafer, Jack Marts, and Herman Miller.
