J. Elmer Barnhart, 89, of 3317 Center Point Road, rural Marion, died Monday at Northbrook Manor Care Center following a long illness.
Born Oct. 21, 1893, at Harper, Iowa, he married Neva J. Shepherd on Dec. 23, 1914, at Oskaloosa. He farmed prior to retirement, was a longtime member of the Farm Bureau and was a charter member of the Boys 4-H Club in Iowa.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, William H. of rural Lisbon and Duane of Marion; a daughter, Mrs. Donald Beck of Marion; a sister, Mabel Yates of Sigourney; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Services: 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories by the Rev. Marilynn L. Hamilton of Prairie Chapel United Methodist Church of Marion. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home after 3 p.m. today. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 770 Seventh Ave., No. 208, Marion 52302.
