Clayton Garrett

FLORIS - Clayton Garrett, 70, of Floris died at 2 a.m. Feb. 6, 1985, at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.

He was born July 6, 1914, in Wapello County to John and Ella Jones Garrett. He married Hazel Dearborn on June 25, 1932, at Lancaster, Mo. He worked for John Deere Ottumwa Works from 1939 to 1956, when he purchased the Buick and Pontiac dealership at Bloomfield. He sold out in 1961 and spent the remainder of his life on his farm near Floris. He was appointed chairman of the Davis County Democrats Central Committee in 1966. He was a member of the Eldon Lions Club, serving as president in 1975-76 and in 1984. He attended the Congregational Church in Eldon.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Willmae Heckethorn of Floris; a son, Richard of Ottumwa; two sisters, Reva Cassady of Des Moines and Pearl Rosenbalm of Ottumwa; a brother, Kenneth of Peoria, Ill.; and six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

The service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Campbell Funeral Home in Eldon, the Rev. David Albert officiating. Burial will be in Floris Cemetery.
