Milton Lawson

Milton S. Lawson, 74, of Keota, former Birmingham resident, died at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Keokuk, where he had been since being transferred Jan. 2 from Veterans Hospital in Iowa City.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Powell Funeral Home, Keota, with the Rev. Lenard Sjogren officiating. Burial will be in Keota Cemetery. Visitation will be in Keota Cemetery. Visitation will begin after 6 p.m. Saturday. A memorial has been established to the Keota Senior Center.

Lawson was born Nov. 29, 1910 at Keota, the son of Franklin G. and Ethel Mae Gumm Lawson. He attended schools in Keota and Birmingham, worked on farms in those areas and for 12 years was employed at University of Iowa, Iowa City. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, was a WWII veteran and a past commander of VFW with life membership.

Surviving are two brothers, Robert A. Sr. of Fairfield, Walter of Jensen Beach, Fla.; four sisters, Nina Jaeger of Harper, Alberta Carruthers of Mt. Pleasant, Dorothy Moore of Phoenix, Ariz., and Betty Mitchell of Bonaparte.

His parents and three sisters preceded him in death.
