Hazel Nichols

FAIRFIELD - Hazel E. Nichols, 85, of Fairfield died at 3:20 a.m. Oct. 19, 1987, at the Parkview Care Center in Fairfield.

She was born Sept. 2, 1902, in Keosauqua to George and Mary Kennedy Hendricks. She was a lifetime resident of Fairfield and was a cook at the Fairfield High School. She worked in Martins Tea Room for several years and was resident caretaker at the McElhinney House in Fairfield. She was a member of Free Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. She married Clarence Nichols Jan. 7, 1955, in Batavia.

She is survived by nine children; Kathryn Shaw of St. Peter, Mo., Dorothy Schenk of Burlington, Helen Webster of San Jose, Calif., Leonard "Sug" Kane of Corpus Christy, Texas, Alice Ferrell of Fairfield, Leland Kane of Des Moines, Lester Kane of Arlington Heights, Ill., Janyce Rodenmayer of Cottage Grove, Ore., Ruth Stephens of Beloit, Kan.; four stepchildren, Marjorie Benn of Fairfield, Gerald Nichols of Lockridge, Kathleen Brooks of Galva, Ill., and Hillis Nichols of Belfonte, Maine; 29 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; a sister, Helen Junkin of Reseda, Calif.; and a brother, Paul Hendricks of Denver, Colo.

The service will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Raymond Funeral Home, the Rev. Charles Kaufman officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery at Fairfield.

The family will be at the funeral home 7-8 p.m. today.

Memorials may be made to Free Methodist Church or the Fairfield Senior Citizen Center.
