Hilma Sophia Nelson, daughter of John E. and Seraphia Nelson, was born Aug. 17, 1880 near Willits Station in Van Buren County.
On Dec. 24, 1899 she married Jesse Watkins. To this union were born two sons, Roy Leon and a child who died in birth.
Hilma grew up and was married to Jesse in the Willits neighborhood. After their marriage Hilma and Jesse bought their home one mile south of Center Chapel and there lived their married life. They became members of the Center Chapel Methodist church during the spring of 1900 and were loyal to their church there entire lives.
Since Jesse's death in 1940 Hilma made her home with Roy and Dorothy. She is survived by her son Roy, daughter-in-law Dorothy, three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services were held at 2 p. m. Sunday March 2 at Center Chapel church where she had been a member since 1900.
The Rev. John A. Nye, pastor of the church conducted the last rites. Burial was at Center Chapel cemetery.From a funeral memorial card in possessin of the author.
Her death date is February 28, 1958.
