Mrs. Dorinda Caroline Moon former Ottumwan and wife of the late John Moon, passed away in her sleep early Sunday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Ricker in Tulsa, Ola.
Mrs. Moon lived in Ottumwa since 1886, but had made her home in Tulsa, Okla., since 1928, where she had been an invalid for the past five years.She was the daughter of Alexander Selkirk Martin and Frances Ann Riley Martin who emigrated from Virginia in the fall of 1949, where they purchased a farm in Harrisburg district, Van Buren county.
Her two grandfathers saw action in the war of 1812 and four uncles in the Southern War of 1865.
Mrs. Moon was the last of seven children, she led a busy and useful life with her family and friends, leaving surviving her the following children: John H. Gibbs, and Harry C. Moon, both of Ottumwa. Charles W. Gibbs, Galesburg, Ill.; George A. Gibbs, Fairfield, Iowa; Mrs. H. J. Bremhorst, Ottumwa and Mrs. Ricker of Tulsa. Twelve grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren also survive.
She was a member of the First Methodist church of Ottumwa and a charter member of several clubs.
Funeral services were held Thursday from the Lester Jay funeral home, in charge of the Rev. H. A. Keck, D. D., and burial was in the Ottumwa cemetery.
She spent her young life in and near Bonaparte as the wife of Thomas F. Gibbs and where five of her children were born.
