Cora Ethel Simmons only daughter of Mike and Della Simmons was born near Bonaparte, Ia., Dec. 14, 1895 and died Dec. 29, 1915, at the age of 20 years and 15 days. She was the older of two children of her parents, the other child being Leslie Simmons who is at home. She lived all her life in the vicinity of Story Chapel and Bonaparte, with the exception of four years when the family lived in Nebraska.
Cora was of a studious turn of mind and four years ago finished the eigth grade from the White Oak School after which she was enrolled for one year in the Bonaparte High School. For the last three years she attended high school in Farmington and had she lived would have graduated with the class of 1916. Through her work in both high schools and her many family connections she possessed a wide acquaintance who are both surprised and grieved by her sudden death.
Her death while not wholly unexpected by her immediate family, who have long known nature of her illness, came after a final attack of very short duration, Cora being apparently in her usual state of health on Friday. She had missed no school because of her illness.
She leaves to mourn their loss her father and mother, one brother, her grandmother, Mrs. Kate Johnson, and numerous other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at Story Chapel Friday at 11 am with Rev. Hawk in charge, burial at Thompson cemetery. Six of her classmates in the Farmington High School were her pallbearers.
