Mr. S. W. Rankin of Vernon township died Monday of last week. Mr. Rankin was 70 years of age.
Samuel Work Rankin was born near Connellsville, Fayette county, Pa., February 24, 1836. When a young man he moved to Hendrysburg, Ohio, where he was united in marriage to Miss Sarah Ball in 1862. To this union were born three sons, Robert E, James W., Leslie C., who are left with the mother, and three grand children to mourn the loss of a kind and loving husband and father. He moved with his family to Iowa, in 1884, where he continued to reside until he was called home April 23, 1906, making his age 70 years, one month 29 days. His last sickness dated from in January. Although his suffering was great he bore it patiently, and was always cheerful to the close of his life. A good citizen loved by all his neighbors, has gone to his reward. Funeral services were held in Story Chapel, conducted by Rev. J. W. Carson. He was followed to his last resting place by a host of friends.
