Two Cantril Men Killed-
Youth In Car Mishap;
Lieutenant In Vietnam

DONNELLSON - Ronald Francis Harward, 17, of Cantril was fatally injured and two other Cantril youths seriously injured in a car-truck collision about 7;55 p.m. Monday at the intersection of highway 103 and 218 about six miles north of Donnellson.

Harward was a passenger in a car driven by James L. Kindle, 16. Kindle received head, lung, and pelvis injuries. Another passenger, Bill Perkins, 14, received right arm, head, and possible back injuries. Both were taken to Sacred Heart Hospital in Fort Madison.

Highway patrolmen reported it appeared the Kindle youth pulled in front of the semi driven by Walter E. Caldwell, 42, of Keokuk, who escaped injury. The car was struck broadside and the semi overturned in a ditch.

Harward born in Cantril, May 31, 1950, the son of Richard and Marjorie Pender Harward. He was a senior at Fox Valley Community High School.

Survivors include his parents; one brother, James of Cantril; and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Harward of Cantril and Phil Pender of Milton.

The funeral will be held Thursday (today) at 2 p.m. at Cantril Christian Church with the Rev. Jeffrey Berkley officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery.

The body is at Wellborn Funeral Home in Milton.

Marine 1st Lt. George C. Norris, 26, son of Mr. and Mrs. George C. Norris of Cantril, was killed in action in Vietnam on April 30, his parents were notified Tuesday.

Lt. Norris was serving with the 1st Marine Division and was killed in action against North Vietnamese troops near Quang Tri. He had been in the Marines for about two years and had served in Vietnam nearly a year, his father said.

He was born in Cantril, graduated from high school there and wasa 1964 graduate of Drake University. A sister survives besides his parents.
