Carroll Louis Unkrich 1934-2017

Carroll Louis Unkrich, 83, of rural Birmingham, IA, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by loved ones on July 14, 2017. Funeral services were held July 18, 2017, at the Birmingham United Methodist Church in Birmingham, IA, with Rev. Herbert Shafer of ficiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Birmingham, immediately following the service.

Carroll Louis Unkrich was born June 2, 1934, in Richland, IA, to Charles and Dorothy (Williams) Unkrich. He attended Birmingham High School where he was a member of the graduating class of 1952 and later served as a veteran of the U.S. Army. Carroll met and fell in love with Barbara Ann Huisman. The two began their life together as husband and wife on March 15, 1959, in Birmingham, IA. Carroll and Barbara became the proud parents to two children, Judy and Mark. Carroll was a hardworking farmer who, with Barbara by his side, created a loving home for their family. He understood the value of a hard day's work and a firm handshake. Carroll was a member of the Birmingham United Methodist Church, Lions Club, Cattleman's Association, as well as serving as a Union Township Trustee. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Chicago Cubs fan. His love for farming was only second to his love for his family. Carroll was a kind man with a generous heart, who will be deeply missed by his family and those lucky enough to call him friend.

Carroll was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Dorothy Unkrich.

Left to share his story is his loving wife Barbara of Birmingham, IA; two children, Judy (Clint) Hardin and Mark (Heidi) Unkrich, both of Birmingham, LA; four grandchildren, Ashley (Brandon) Moyer, Austin (Brenda) Hardin, Audrey (Ryan) Smith, and Emily (Nick) Fraser; five great -grandchildren, plus one on the way, as well as many extended family and a host of friends.

Cranston Family Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
