Elza Cross

A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, for Elza Cross, 76, a resident of the Oakridge area for the past 20 years. The service was held in the Chapel of the Woods of the Oakridge Funeral Home with the Rev. E. David Wardlow officiating. Vault interment followed in Lane Memorial Gardens, Eugene.

Elza Glenn Cross was born in Downing, Mo., Feb. 6, 1889. He passed away in a Eugene hospital after a final illness of about three weeks, Monday morning, July 1.

He married Miss Effie Alexander of Kahoka, Mo., on June 20, 1910, and to this union seven children were born, all of whom survive. The family moved to the Oakridge area around 1948, and Mr. Cross took employment with the Edward Hines Lumber Co. at Westfir, retiring when he was 70. His wife preceded him in death two years ago. He was a member of the Oakridge Church of the Nazarene.

He is survived by three children of Oakridge, Harold and Leslie Cross and Mildred Schmidt, Madalyn of Rupert, Idaho, Richard Cross of Lake Oswego, Otis Cross of Pasadena, Calif., Ione Neades of Des Moines, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Emma Brewster of Iowa and Dona Salvers of New York.

The Cross' were residents of Bonaparte years ago.
