Homer Coatney, Barker Equipment Co. Salesmanager, Killed In Plane Crash

Homer Coatney, sales manager for the Barker Equipment co. in Keosauqua, was killed in a plane accident at a Kansas City airport last Wednesday evening, April 10.

Mr. Coatney, 51, whose home was in Kansas City, was returning from Keosauqua in the company plane which he piloted. He had left Keosauqua at 3 P.M. Wednesday.

Barker Company officials said the four-place Piper Comanche was apparently stuck in the tail by another plane as it approached the airport for a landing.

The eldest of Mr. Coatney's five children, Jerry, 17, was at the airport to meet his father when the mid-air collision occurred.

Mr. Coatney had been a Barker Company salesman for eight years and sales manager the past year. He had received his pilot's license six years ago.

Funeral services were held in Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Galesburg, Ill., Monday. He is survived by his widow, Dorothy, and five children, ranging in age from four to 17.
