Mrs. A.R. Beggs
KEOSAUQUA - Mrs. Elma Beggs, 76, died in Van Buren County hospital at 9 p.m. Dec. 18. Death was due to a stroke, suffered Nov. 22.
Martha Elma Brown, daughter of Joshua and Margaret Harlan Brown, was born near Stockport on Nov. 28, 1879. In February of 1904 she was married to A.R. Beggs, and they lived at Keosauqua since their marriage. Beggs is a retired mail carrier.
Mrs. Beggs was a member of the Christian church and was active in the Missionary and Ladies societies of the church.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Beggs is survived by a son and a daughter: Hugh Beggs, Jacksonville, Ill. and Mrs. J.H. Black, of Indianapolis, Ind.
Also surviving are three brothers and two sisters: O.H. Brown, Stockport; M.P. Brown, Tacoma, Wash.; A.C. Brown, Louisville, Ky.; Mrs. Neva Boyd, Kansas City, Kan., and Mrs. E.T. Stever, of Omaha, Neb., and a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Mina Beggs, of Milton. A son, Brown Beggs, was killed in a traffic accident several years ago.
Several brothers and sisters also died previously.
Last rites will be held at the Burnett-Catcott funeral home at 2 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. John G. Ballensky, pastor of the Keosauqua Christian church, will officiate, and burial will in in Mt. Moriah cemetery, near Douds.
