Linnies Houdesheldt

Linnies S. Houdesheldt, was born in Decatur City, Decatur county, Iowa, March 11, 1863 and passed away at the Iowa City hospital September 20, 1939 aged 76 years 6 months and 9 days.

On November 15, 1898 he was united in marriage to Miss Chlora McGahuey at Garden Grove, Iowa. To this union two sons, Orville and Wesley, were born both of whom survive and with their mother mourn his departure.

At an early age he united with the church of the "United brethren in Christ."

Though he has been in failing health for some time he bore his suffering with great patience and Christian fortitude. His was a life of singular purity. He was a friend to all and his kind words and ready smile endeared him to the hearts of all who knew him.

Mr. Houdesheldt was a blacksmith by trade and for the past 40 years had worked at his trade in Van Buren county, the last 35 years of this time in the town of Keosauqua. he was a skilled mechanis and an expert workman and took special delight and pride in his work. He had a kee understanding of the art of working with metals and many times patrons came from considerable distances to secure his services.

Besides his wife and two sons, he leaves two grandchildren, Ruth Ann and Richard Houdesheldt, to sisters, Mrs. Cora Campbell of Cleveland, Ohio, and Mrs. Mable Tally of Denver, Colorado; one brother Philo Houdesheldt of Leon, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. C. Hugo Orf, were held from the Burnett Funeral home in Keosauqua, Sunday afternoon at 2:00. Burial was in Purdom cemetery.
