Elmer A. Niece

Elmer A. Niece was born Sept. 1, 1891 in Henry County, Iowa and passed away June 4, 1961 at the Mercy hospital, Iowa City. He was the son of Frank and Mary Ellen Arnold Niece.

Mr. Niece was united in marriage to Lillian Leach on Nov. 28, 1908. She passed away June 23, 1922. On Oct. 1, 1930, he married Clara Smith, who survives as does three sons, Arnold of Hillsboro, Harold of Fairfield and Fred of Richland; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Houston of Hillsboro and Mrs. Erma Smith of Packwood; also two sisters, Flossie Holley of Des Moines and Ethel Freeman of Mt. Pleasant; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. One brother preceded him in death.

He was a member of the Hillsboro Baptist church.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 7 at 3:00 p.m., C.S.T., at the Baptist church in Hillsboro, with the pastor, the Rev. Charles Grooms, officiating. Rev. Grooms sang, "The Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" accompanied by Mrs. Forrest Fuhrer. Burial at Forest Home cemetery, Mt. Pleasant. Pallbearers were L.T. Harlan, C.F. Hoaglan, Craig Smart, Dewey Watson, Harry Reinier and J.M. Dodds.
