Gertrude Thornton

Gertrude Isaman Thornton, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Isaman, was born Dec. 2, 1879 at Hillsboro and passed away March 26, 1962 at the Van Buren County Memorial Hospital at Keosauqua at the age of 82 years. She was a member of the Methodist Church.

She was united in marriage to Robert Thornton in 1895 who preceded her in death.

Surviving are one son, David Thornton of Hillsboro and four daughters, Mrs. Maggie Keck of Bonaparte, Mrs. Mary Miller of Washington, D.C., Mrs. Cassie Leazure of Twin Falls, Idaho and Mrs. Verla High of Silver Springs, Md.; 14 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by one brother, one sister and a daughter.

Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon, March 29 at 2 p.m. at Hillsboro Christian Church. Rev. O.T. Wilson of Mt. Pleasant will officiate. Mrs. Wayne Ross will be organist. Pallbearers: Phil Hixson, Craig Smart, Ira Pickard, John Fleming and M.M. Doan Sr. and Arnold Niece. Burial in Hillsboro Cemetery.
