JOHN W. MCINTOSH

John Wesley McIntosh, third child of the family of eight children of Thomas and Rebecca McIntosh, was born in a log house on the pioneer farm in Vernon township, Van Buren county, on May 20, 1859, and lived with his parents on the farm until young manhood.

On Nov. 30, 1884, he was united in marriage with Lizzie A. Wiley of Des Moines township and to this union were born one daughter and four sons. The daughter, Clara, departed this life May 4, 1901. The wife and mother was taken Jan. 21, 1904.

He was again united in marriage with Elta A. Fitzgerald of Harrisburg township of Feb. 6, 1906. She departed this life August 7, 1925. He and his son, Arthur, lived on the farm since that date.

He united with the Center Chapel M.E. church in the summer of 1904 and ever strived to live up to the vows taken at that time. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. and A.O.U.W. lodge.

He spent his entire life in Van Buren county except one year in California. He passed away on the early morning of Nov. 28, 1929, after an illness of about three months.

He leaves to mourn his passing four sons, Curtis, Harry and Arthur near the old home place, and Floyd of Coshocton, Ohio, and two grandchildren, Ruth and John Curtis McIntosh who will miss his kindly face and wise council.

He also leaves four sisters, Mrs. Mary Newman and Mrs. Rose Anson of California; Mrs. Jane Matheson of Keosauqua, and Mrs. Catherine Barker of Mt. Zion; and two brothers, James and George. One brother, T. A. McIntosh, passed away in California Dec. 8, 1912.

He was always public spirited and lent his assistance for the things for the upbuilding of his church and community. A host of neighbors and friends will miss him.

Funeral services were held at Center Chapel on Saturday, Nov. 30, at two o'clock conducted by Rev. M. D. Cox, pastor of the M. E. church of Keosauqua.
