JAMES FRANKLIN KENNEDY

James Franklin Kennedy, son of James B. and Blossom Geitner Kennedy, was born Aug. 29, 1918 at Altoona, Iowa and died May 10, 1955 near Mt. Sterling, Iowa, in a car accident.

He attended country grade schools near Altoona and in Van Buren and Lee counties, and the Bonaparte high school.

In June 1941 he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and after four months training went to England, then entered Africa with the first troops, being in the African-Sicilian-Italian theater of war until September 1945 when he returned to the States and received his discharge at Ft. Sheridan, Ill.

On March 30, 1946 he was united in marriage with Edna Ruth Pfeifer, at Mohave, Calif., and they returned a short time later to make their home in Montrose, Iowa, later purchasing a home near Montrose. In August 1953 (remainder missing)....

Towing Mishap Takes Life Of Keosauqua Man

KEOSAUQUA. - Frank Kennedy, 37, Keosauqua, was killed Tuesday evening in an unusual highway accident six miles southeast of here.

He was riding in a pickup truck which was towing an oil truck.

Dale Craig, 21, driver of the pickup, said as the two vehicles went down a hill he was unable to hold back the oil truck with the brakes on the truck.

The runaway oil truck swerved the lighter, pickup around and overturned it, pinning Kennedy underneath. The towing bar broke and the oil truck also overturned, about 50 feet away.

Craig is t the Memorial hospital here, where he was to have X-ray examination today. He has shock, cuts, bruises and possible fracture of ribs. The oil truck was steered by Marion Marmion of Ft. Madison, who was uninjured.

Both Kennedy and Craig were employes of the Parsons Chevrolet Co. They were bringing the disabled truck here from near Mt. Sterling. The oil truck was owned by Riley Bros. of Burlington.

Kennedy is survived by his wife, Ruth, a son, Karl, 8 , and a daughter Karen, 5. The family lived in Keosauqua until three weeks ago when they moved to a farm near Montrose. Kennedy commuted daily to his work here.

The body is at the Burnett-Catcott funeral home in Keosauqua.
