CURTIS, Avis: Died Died 1900

Mrs. Avis Curtis, nee Culver, was born near Waterford, Washington county, Ohio, on December 23, 1812, and passed quietly away at her country residence near Farmington, Ia., on July 1, 1900, having lived to the ripe old age of eighty-seven years, six months and twenty-nine days. She was the youngest of a family of nine children and the last one to lay down her life. The deceased was twice married to brothers, the last to Nimrod Curtis in April, 1841. There were five children born to these two unions, two to the first and three to the last, of which three still survive. With one grandchild and one great grandchild to mourn her loss. She and her husband moved from Ohio, to a point opposite Farmington, Ia., early in January, 1842, and has been a resident in Van Buren county, this state, continually for over 58 years. The funeral services were conducted at the former's residence Tuesday morning by Rev. Thomas Ratcliff in the presence of many friends and neighbors. Interment was made by the side of her husband in the Green Glade cemetery.
