Lancaster Man Killed Tuesday

Friday and Saturday nights stores in Lancaster had been opened and goods stolen. Among the places broken into were Mitchell's drug store, Duckworth's drug store and a grocery on the west side. In an attempt to stop future thefts, the owner of the electric plant there, Jos. Bolton, had placed electric lights in the alleys back of these stores.

Tuesday morning at about 2 o'clock, Mike Roberts, nightwatch, in making rounds of the business houses, saw by the light of a street lamp someone in Farrell's meat market. He also saw the bolts had been pulled from the screen door and entrance made there. Entering by the same method he called the intruder to throw up his hands. Instead of so doing the thief pulled a gun when the nightwatch fired. Mr. Roberts went for Mr. Jeffries, the hotel man, and they investigated the body and found it to be that of Boyd Hope, a young married man of Lancaster.

Mr. Jeffries then notified Mr. Bolton that his electric plant had no operator in charge, when the latter, summoned the day man and investigated the shooting. Mr. Bolton says Mr. Boyd worked for him for ten years and that he was an industrious and capable employe. He was married and had two children.
