Mrs. A.M. Newman

The following obituary was taken from the Bradshaw, Neb., Monitor of the death of Mrs. Athalia Atwater Newman. She was born at Birmingham and her young womanhood was spent in this vicinity. Mrs. Newman is probably one of the oldest subscribers to the Enterprise, and was always interested in her old home.

"Athalia Matilda Margaret Atwater was born April 19, 1848, at Birmingham, Iowa. In early youth she accepted Christ as her Savior, and united with the Methodist Church, of which organization she remained a devoted member until her death which occurred at her home in South Bradshaw, Nebraska at 10:45 A.M. Wednesday, February 8, 1922, aged 73 years, 9 months, and 19 days.

At the age of 19 years, her mother died and she kept the home together for her aged father until September 14, 1874, when she was united in marriage to John W. Newman and came at one to the new home here on the prairies where she has since resided, making a cheerful home for her husband and two daughters.

She was the mother of three children, one son and two daughters. The son John Elmer, passed away when but a little baby. Her husband and two daughters Laura v. Bowley and Dora A. Rogers, with their families are left to mourn the dedarture(sp) of a loving and beautiful mother, whose unexcelled patience leaves a worthy example to all who are to are left to mourn."
