Obituary

John Combs was born June 28, 1833, in the state of Indiana. In 1853 he came to Leando, Iowa, where for some years he made his home. Later he located in Farmington and was married to Miss Josephine Amos on Jan. 5, 1873. They were the parents of two children, a son, Frank, who died in 1885, aged 8 years and 7 months, and Mrs. Ida Henshaw, now residing in Latour, Mo. She visited the parents about a month since and cannot now be present.

Mr. Combs joined the Christian church Feb. 10, 1889, and has for many years yeen a trustee of the church. He was for many years a trusted employe of the C.G.&Q. Ry. Co. in the ???y of section foreman, in fact not until the afflictions of age made it necessary did he leave his position. Since that time he has continued in such active labor as his increasing infirmities would permit. He was brought up in an age when industry and frugrlity were absolute necessities and he never forsook those virtues.

He was respected by all his townsmen and will be greatly missed by his friends and associates, most of all by his brethren and sisters of the Christian church.

He leaves to the sympathy of the public his wife and daughter, Mrs. Ida Henshaw, and a number of more distant relatives.

He had a stroke of paralysis about two months ago from his weakened constitution to throw off. Without physical pain except difficult breathing and intense weakness death came to his release on Nov. 13, 1912, at the age of 79 years, 4 months and 15 days.

Funeral services were held at the Christian church at 2:30 p.m. Nov. 13, Elder James McKiernan in charge. Burial took place in Farmington cemetery. Rev. Shepherd of Centerville was expected here for the funeral services but was unable to be present.
