Walter S. Epperly, 79, of Rt 1, Milton, IA died at 10:25 a.m. Friday, May 15, 1998 at Davis Co. Hospital, Bloomfield, IA. He was born Dec. 29. 1918 near Milton to Leslie and Maude Epperly. He married Clara Mae Carpenter. They were divorced. He married Bernita Wilson Madden, August 24 1967 in Memphis, MO. He graduated from Milton High School and Parsons College, Fairfield, IA. he taught in Lockridge, Milton, Cantril, Douds and Van Buren schools, and farmed the family farm in rural Milton. He was a Presbyterian and attended Lebanon United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, a son, Gary Epperly of Austin, TX, a daughter, Jeanne Baskett of Victoria, TX, a stepson, Ross Madden of Bloomfield, two step daughters, Ramona Adkins of Des Moines and Renee Reed of Chariton, four grandchildren, three step grandchildren and five set great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Leslie, Elmer and Harold and a sister, Alice Megrath.
The body was cremated. A memorial service was held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 18, 1998 at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, IA. Rev. S. Gale Hawhee officiated. Memorials my be left at the funeral home.
