JOHN THOMAS BARKER

John Thomas Barker, son of Geo. and Fanny Barker, was born in Van Buren county near Mt. Zion, Iowa, Oct. 4, 1865 and departed this life Feb. 7, 1944 at his home in Douds, Iowa, at the age of 78 years, 4 months and 4 days.

In 1895 he was united in marriage to Vennie Alice Smart. To this union two children were born, one son Raymond, and a daughter, Blanche. His wife preceded him in death 11 years ago.

On Nov. 19, 1938 he was married to Mrs. Anna Slutts of Douds, Iowa.

A week preceding his death he suffered his third stroke.

He was a patient sufferer. He was a member of the Baptist church. He leaves to mourn their loss his wife, Anna Barker of Douds, one son Raymond of Washington State, one daughter, Mrs. Blanche Simmons of Farmington, two grandsons, Hollis and Harold Barker, one granddaughter, Roberta Simmons, three brothers, William of Kahoka, Mo., Allie of Colorado, and Glenn of Bloomfield, one sister, Myrtle Pender of Bonaparte. Two sisters preceded him in death. He is also survived by five-step-sons and six step-daughters besides a host of other relatives and friends. He will be greatly missed.

He has passed into the silence, of the unrecorded years. He has walked with us and talked with us and shared our hope and fears, and some time we shall greet once more, this loved one of ours who has gone before.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon from the Pedrick funeral home at Douds, conducted by the Rev. Parrott, pastor of Methodist church. Interment was in the Milton cemetery.
