Obituary of Mrs. Louisa Trebilcock

Lovisa Lyman was born in Ohio in 1827 and passed to her reward Thursday, Sept. 19, 1918, at her home in Keosauqua, Iowa, aged 91 years and 28 days. She was married to John Trebilcock in 1845 and in April, 1855, moved to Van Buren county, Iowa, settling on a 240-acre farm now owned by Wm. Beatty, where they resided for 40 years. Mrs. Trebilcock, in dictating this brief history of her life, said: "In 1883 the Angel of Death called for our dear boy Frank, a young man of 28 years, leaving me very lonely. In 1895 we moved to the Forbes farm, where we owned 50 acres, that we might be close to our only daughter Maggie McSurely. In 1906 this dear daughter was called to her Heavenly home. Four years later Maggie's only daughter Cleola was summoned and nine days later my dear husband. I cannot describe my feelings, you will have to imagine for yourself. I felt that everyone who was near and dear to me had passed away. In 1911 I bought a comfortable home in Keosauqua close to my only living son Perry. He and his wife have treated me with all kindness and tenderness. I joined the United Brethern church while yet a mere girl, and was a member for many years, but when I came to Keosauqua there being no church here of my choice I joined the Methodist Epicopal church, giving the pastor Bro. Field my hand and the Lord my heart, and whether my days be many or few I expect to spend them in the service of my Lord. 'Through many toils and snares I have already come, 'Twas grace that brought me safe thus far and Grace will take me home.' Yes, I am waiting for the Angel of Death to call me. while I have no relatives near me except my son Perry, I am surrounded by the best of friends and neighbors, and they all treat me as though I were their mother. If I live until Aug. 22, 1917, I will be 90 years of age." Funeral services were conducted by her pastor, Rev. J.A. Monkman, in the Keosauqua M.E. church Saturday forenoon, Sept. 21 at 10 o'clock in the presence of a goodly number of her relatives, neighbors and friends. The pall-bearers were Messrs. Walker, Plowman, Strickling, Mathias, Brown and Mounce. Interment was in the Oaklawn cemetery.
