Monday, February 24, 1936

Mr. H.B. Carroll.
Editor Keosauqua Repbulican.
Keosauqua, Iowa.

Dear Mr. Carroll:

I am sending you the following account of the death of my sister, Mrs. Emma A. Blake, if you have not already had an account.

Mrs. Emma Ameliz Blake died at the home of her daughter, Margaret Weir on Wednesday morning, at 1:35 a.m. in Memphis, Mo. She was born in Johnstown, Pa. Sept. 19, 1848. She moved with her parents, Alexander and Julian Ann Henry to Keosauqua, Iowa when a child and married Charles H. Blake, of Memphis, Mo., May 31, 1870 at her home in Keosauqua. Most of their married life was spent in Memphis, though for a time the lived in Northfield, Minn. They then lived in Keosauqua a short time, returning to Memphis, Mo. where they lived until Mr. Blake's death, which occurred several years ago. Her children were small and it became Mrs. Blake's duty to raise and educate her large family of children. She kept house until her children were married, then divided her time between her children until called to her reward.

She leaves the following daughters: Mrs. Margaret Weir, of Memphis, Mo; Mrs. Nina Wishart, of Unionville, Mo.; Mrs. Ida Van Sickle and Mrs. Louise Slaughter of Queen City, Mo. A daughter, Mrs. Williams, and a son, Alex Blake, died in Los Angeles several years ago. She leaves a sister, Mrs. Margaret Edwards, of Vesta, Calif., who will be 101 years old April 4, 1936, and her youngest brother, C.F. Henry, a resident of the I.O.O.F. Home. She was a member of a family of 12 children, 6 boys and 6 girls. She was a devoted wife and mother, a kind sister and good to all, ever ready to lend a helping hand in time of need. She had been a faithful member of the Presbyterian church for many years. She was a sister of the late George A. Henry, who edited the Keosauqua Republican for many years, and an aunt of Mrs. R.B. Rowley and Mrs. R.B. McBeth, of Keosauqua. After a long life of service we feel that she has exchanged her cross for a crown and has heard these welcome words, "Well done, good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of the Lord."

The funeral services were conducted by her pastor, Rev. McCullough and interment in the Memphis cemetery.
