OBITUARY
**Handwritten: 1913

September the 2, just as the activities of the day were being taken up the soul of Maude Faye Gulick left the casket of clay to begin the realities of the other life. She was the second child of J.D. and Ida V. Gulick, who moved to Keosauqua last March that they might properly care for their afflicted daughter. Her's was a short and uneventful career but filled with sweetness and glorified by a fervant(sp) faith in Christ . She was born near Stutgart, Arkansas, December 21st, 1891. While she was a babe, her parents moved to Galesburg, Illinois, and when Maude was 10 years old they came to the vicinity of Keosauqua. Here Maude studied in our schools and was pursuing her education in our high school when she was taken by that dreaded disease tuburculosis(sp). That was eight months ago. From the first the attack was very severe and although every effort was put forth that faith in God, medical skill and careful nursing could devise, yet it is clear nursing could devise, yet it is clear that her task was finished and that she has been called to her reward. All during the long, weary months of waiting, she manifested the patience of a saint. Last May she told her pastor that she was ready to go to her heavenly home and assured her mother that whether her waiting be long or short she would express no impatience. This promise was not only kept but she seemed to strive continuously to be as little bother to her dear ones as possible. Maude was converted while visiting her grandmother at Raritan, Illinois, and joined the M.E. church in June, 1910. Later she transferred her membership to Keosauqua. The end came at her home in Keosauqua when she was 18 years, 8 months and 11 days old. She is survived by her parents, one sister, Edna C., and two brothers Van C., and Charles T. Among her other surviving relatives are a grandmother and three aunts. These with a host of friends are mourning her untimely departure.

The funeral service was conducted by the pastor in the Methodist church and the remains placed to rest in the beautiful Purdom cemetery at Keosauqua, September 4, 1913.
