Death of Miss Mate Miller.

A little over 52 years ago Miss Mate Miller was born to Mr. and Mrs. John A. Miller of Keosauqua, in the house where she always lived and where she died at 5 o'clock last Sunday morning, Sept. 10, 1910. She knew no other home than this and here she is mourned by our citizens, like almost they would mourn for the death of a relative. Mate, as our people familiarly called her was dear to all of us. Truly can it be said of her that she was without enemies. She was faithful to her home, her parents and her brothers and sister, loving them as she did her own life, and so she was loved in return. Her mother died some years ago. Her father John A. Miller, her sister Mrs. Maud Manning and her brother Mr. Craig Miller, survive, along with a number of other relatives. For 21 years she had been afflicted, but she bore her sufferings with remarkable fortitude and patience and ever seemed to strive to not let her troubles worry those around her.

No one loved music more than did Mate. For some time she was a member, years ago, of what was know as Rowley's band, playing an instrument in that organization, and a short time before her death she made a request of her father, brother and sister, that the present band, of which her long time friend, R.B. Rowley, is director, play selections, (which she named) at her funeral, and Monday, during the services preceding her burial, the band rendered the "Holy City" and "Safe in the Arms of Jesus." Rev. Perkins was in charge of the services which were attended by a large concourse of people, the burial being in the Purdom cemetery. The pall bearers were J.H. Landes, Oscar McCrary, R.B. Rowley, H.E. Duckworth, J.C. Strickling and J.M. Overman. The order of P.E.O., of which she was a member, attended in a body. Next week will be given in these columns the eulogy delivered by Rev. Perkins.
