JESSIE KELLER ENDS OWN LIFE
-------------------
the divorced wife of Frank B. Stev- [sic] Jessie Keller, 29 years old and er, widely known local cattle dealer, took her own life at about 8 o'clock Monday evening in her apartments on the square, where she lived with her father, Ed Keller, in Fairfield.

Dr. J. S. Gaumer, county coroner, said that no inquest will be held since the note left by Miss Keller, explained her act. She said in this note that she was despondent and tired of living. She ended her life by taking poison and a quantity of this preparation was found in her rooms. Her body was found on the floor of the room by her father when he came home last evening.

Miss Keller is survived by her father and two sisters, Mrs. Kenneth Stephenson of Waverly and Mrs. Gaston Droze who lives on a farm near Fairfield. She is also survived by her grandmother, Mrs. Martin Walker.

She was a graduate of the Birmingham high school and of Parsons college, and has many friends in Van Buren county.

Miss Keller and Stever were divorced about one year ago. Her former husband gained wide publicity recently as a defendant in alleged irregular cattle transactions, though his father has been acquitted of such charges.

NOTE: It looks like the first and second lines of this obit were transposed and the first three lines of this obit should read "Jessie Keller, 29 years old and the divorced wife of Frank B. Stever, widely-known local cattle dealer,....."

(Photocopy of this obit is located on page 334 of Obit Book B found in the Van Buren County, IA Genealogical Society's collection at the Keosauqua Public Library in July 1999. At top of obit is lightly written Keo. Rep. [16?] April 1930 p [1?] col. 5)

I am NOT related to Miss Jessie Keller and am posting her obit for those who may find her in their family history.
