...RSDAY, OCTOBER 13, 1938
WILLIAM H. BERRY

William Henry Berry, the son of John and Catherine Berry, was born on January 8, 1858, in Henry county, Iowa, and quietly passed from this life Sept. 26, 1938, at his home in Stockport, Iowa, at the age of 80 years, 8 months and 18 days.

He was one of 15 children and had spent his early life in Colorado and other western states. The last 45 years were spent in Stockport where he was a contractor and builder.

Failing health forced him to retire from active duty almost nine years ago. Although he was confined to his home the past eighteen months he retained his cheerful disposition.

He was united in marriage Oct. 2, 1896, to Miss Mary Donald at Ottumwa. He is survived by his wife, daughter, Helen, two brothers, Harve and Ed of Kansas; several nieces and nephews, and many friends. One daughter died in infancy.

He took a keen interest in the town and community and served several years on the town council.

He was honest in all of his dealings and a kind of husband and father.

Funeral services were held at the home at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, with Rev. Lewis May in charge. Interment was in Smith cemetery.
