**Handwritten: V.B. Record 14 April 1938

Lydia Ann Whitmore

Lydia Ann Leavitt, daughter of John Sanborn and Lucy Ann Leavitt, was born at Sanbornton, Belknap county, New Hampshire, June 10, 1849, and passed from this earthly existence on April 8, 1938, her age being 88 years, 9 months and 28 days.

Her father was a son of Moses Leavitt, who served as a soldier in the American Revolution. This passes from life one of the few remaining granddaughters of the American Revolution.

On Nov. 12, 1868, she was united in marriage with Hazard A. Whitmore and to this union four sons and one daughter were born, the daughter dying in infancy. The sons are Gerry E. and Irwin of Oak Park, Ill., Herbert of Bonaparte and Bruce of Colorado.

Mr. and Mrs. Whitmore have spent practically all their sixty-nine years of married life in this community on the Whitmore homestead north of Bonaparte where they reared their sons and entertained their many friends.

Mrs. Whitmore united with the Baptist church when a young woman and was ever faithful to the teachings and precepts for her Master. She was a good and faithful wife and mother and will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

There remain to mourn their loss, her husband, ninety years of age, her four sons above named, also twelve grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at the home, Rev. Winfrey officiating. Interment was in Bonaparte cemetery.

Mrs. Whitmore suffered a broken hip several months ago in a fall in her home and since that time has been confined to her bed. She and her husband made their home with their son, Herbert, and family, who have at all times done everything possible for their comfort and happiness in their declining years.

Members of the Van Buren County Chapter D.A.R. were present and assisted in the funeral service, presenting a tribute.
