WALTER J. BROTHERTON
**Handwritten: Walter

the Boley relatives here received the sad news of the death of their cousin, Walter J. Brotherton, of Ashton, Mo., who died suddenly as his car plunged off the ferry barge into the Mississippi River at Alexandria, Mo., about 2:00 p.m., Aug. 18. Mr. Brotherton had driven his car to the top of the levee and stopped and it is thought, either a heart attack or a stroke was the reason for its fast speed down the steep road to the ferry boat. By use of a wrecker from Kahoka, fastened to divers at the bottom of the river, the 1950 Ford and his body was brought up and removed to the shore about 4:00 p.m.

Mr. Brotherton was 74 and a widely known insurance man in Clark county, a retired salesman for the Globe democrat and a member of the Christian church. He was secretary for the Boley reunion for more than 25 years.

His wife Myrtle Boley survives as do three sons and three daughters.

He was married to Myrtle Boley and of this union were born six children, Mrs. Elizabeth Watson of Kahoka, Mo.; Mrs. Emma Lou Cunningham, Keokuk; Charles Kenneth Brotherton, U.S. Army in Germany; Walter Boley Brotherton, Jr., of Ashton, Mo.; Mrs. Florence Buck, Keosauqua and Dale Edgar Brotherton, Donnellson.

Last rites were held Sunday, Aug. 21, at Kahoka, Mo., Christian church and from here attending were Burch Boley, Mr. and Mrs. H.N. Boley and Mr. and Mrs. Rex Miller of Bonaparte.
