He was one of seven children, all of whom survive except one sister, Dessie Holmes, who died in 1942. He was also preceded in death by his mother in 1927 and his father in 1944.

John grew to manhood on a farm north of Bonaparte, and with the exception of a few years in town, spent all his life on a farm. He attended the Mt. When about sixteen years of age he united with the Harrisburg Baptist church, where he retained his membership throughout his life. June 8, 1920, he was united in marriage with Miss Agnes S. Sanford of Bonaparte. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. No. 73. He served as committeeman for the AAA since its organization about fourteen years ago. John enjoyed his friends, and doing for others. His hearty laugh will always be remembered by those who knew him.

Of his immediate family who are left to mourn are his wife, Agnes; and three brothers and two sisters: James of Moline, Ill., Sadie Abernathy of Ottumwa, Elizabeth Harlan and Samuel W. of Bonaparte and Carl W. of Klamath Falls, Oregon. Besides a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services conducted by Rev. E.E. Niederhuth were held Saturday afternoon at the Bonaparte Baptist church. Interment in Sharon cemetery with Masonic ritual service at the grave.
