WOUNDS HIS WIFE THEN KILLS HIMSELF

Lafe Cecil, 60, of Athens, Mo. shot his estranged wife with a ten gauge shotgun at her home in Athens, Mo. He was evidently some distance away for her wound is not serious. She was taken to St. Joseph's hospital in Keokuk for surgical attention.

Sheriff Milligan of Clark county, and members of the Missouri state patrol were called to Athens and instituted a search for Cecil, finding him lying dead in a road about three miles distant from Athens. He had placed the muzzle of the gun in his mouth or against his head for he entire top of his skull was blown off.
