Ex-schoolman An Apparent Suicide

(Wesley) D. Clampitt, 49, former Van Meter school superintendent, died at Iowa Methodist hospital, Des Moines, recently of a shotgun wound.

Coroner L.H. Deford of Dallas county said Clampitt committed suicide. There will be no inquest, the coroner said.

Campitt(sp) had recently resigned his school job to take a position with a Sioux City insurance firm. He coached at Dexter and Johnston before going to Van Meter.

Mr. Clampitt is well know to many of our residents as he was the husband of the deceased Evelyn Atwood, whose family were and are residents of this community. She was a daughter of the late W.T. Atwood and sister of Irvin, Harold Wilson and Alice Atwood.

Mr. Clampitt is survived by a son Ralph and daughter, Lois, another daughter, Doris, having preceded her parents in death.
