MRS. GROVER DAVIS

Elizabeth Ann Harris, known to everyone as Bessie Harris, was born January 1, 1889, in Harrisburg Twp. north of Bonaparte, Iowa. She was the only child of Stephen Harris and Mary L. Rehkopf Harris. Her father died when she was fifteen months old, and her mother died when Bessie was eight years old. She then lived with her mother's parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.C. Rehkopf on the old family homestead. When she was ready for high school she came to Bonaparte and lived with her aunt, Mrs. Anna Meredith. She continued her education by attending Iowa State Teachers College at Cedar Falls. She taught for a number of years in the grade schools of Bonaparte, Keosauqua, Troy and Webb, Iowa.

January 1, 1920, she was united in marriage with Grover C. Davis, and their home was on a farm in the Woods neighborhood. She early united with the Methodist church and helped with the work of that denomination. She was an active member of the Bentonsport cemetery association, serving as treasurer of that organization.

Two weeks ago she underwent a serious operation at St. Joseph hospital, Ottumwa, and was seemly recovering when a blood clot developed which caused her sudden death Sunday, Feb. 1, 1948 at the age of fifty-nine years and one month. She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, Grover Davis, and many relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services conducted by Rev. John S. Ellis were held Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock at the Methodist church in Bonaparte, with interment in Bonaparte cemetery.
