OBITUARIES.

HAYES BROWNLEE.

Hayes Brownlee died at his home near Keosauqua, Saturday, July 4, 1896, in his 64, year. Mr. Brownlee was born in Marion county, Ohio, in 1833, being the oldest of a family of six children, all deceased except a half brother who resides in Tacoma, Washington. His father died when he was a boy and his mother in 1883. He was married in Ohio in 1856 to Miss Elizabeth Reed, who survives him, and in the following year they moved to Illinois, settling on a farm near Delavan, where they lived until 1892, when they came to Iowa and located on a farm near Keosauqua where he died. Besides the wife, the deceased leaves six children, all grown, part of them having their home in this county and the rest in other states, his daughter Etta and son William having their residence with the parents. He became afflicted with liver trouble a couple of years ago, which gradually produced dropsy, causing much suffering towards the last, which he bore with remarkable patience. Mr. Brownlee was one of the good men of the country. He was a splendid example of the christian gentleman, husband and father. The writer's acquaintance dates only from his location near here four years ago, but along with those who know him we can attest to the virtues of the man which are specified in the terms we have used. He united with the Presbyterian church fifteen years ago, taking membership with the Christian church at Keosauqua about two years since. The funeral was very largely attended, the services being at the church of which he was a member, Sunday afternoon, Eld. Daniel Stewart preaching, after which the body was laid in the Fellows' cemetery near the home of the deceased.
