Isaiah Humbert was born in Fayette county, Pa., March 29, 1819, and died at his home in Milton, Van Buren County, Iowa, March 23, 1898, and was therefore 78 years, 11 months and 24 days old. He was married to Miss Mary Shoaf, Dec. 22, 1841. They were blessed with seven children, four sons and three daughters. Two sons, William B. and Isaiah, and two daughters, Serena Ann and Mary E., have passed on to the spirit land. Two sons Ellis B. and Peter, and one daughter Mrs. Martha Belle Cooly, survive, as does also the wife and mother to mourn the loss of a loving husband and a kind and indulgent father. Mr. Humbert came to this county in 1850 and settled near Bonaparte, but in 1861 came to Jackson township and settled four miles south of Milton. In 1889 he moved to Milton which was his home until called from labor to reward. The funeral was from the South Prairie chapel at 2 o'clock p.m. the 24th inst., Eld. T.A. Renfro preaching.
