William M.V.B. Fellows was born in Luzerne county, Penn., April 4, 1836. In the spring of 1837, he came to Iowa with his parents and grew to manhood on his father's farm on the banks of the Des Moines, near Keosauqua. He was married to Matilda A. Peterson on November 25, 1858, and to this union there were born six children, five sons and one daughter. On October 17, 1876, death claimed the wife and mother, and on Sept. 16, 1877, Mr. Fellows was married to Miss Louvenia A. Sperry, who survives him. To this union there were born five children, three sons and two daughter. All of his children are living and all were present at the funeral except one. The children of the first marriage are grown to mature years, the youngest of the second marriage is about 7 years of age and all are well respected wherever known, a living monument to the parents who bore them. He was laid to rest in the cemetery on the farm where he was reared, six of his sons bearing to the tomb the last remains of their father:

"Gone from a world of sadness,
Gone from a bed of pain
Into Eternal gladness
Never to weep again.

Gone where no storms of sorrow,
Sweep o'er his troubled breast;
Gone from a dark to-morrow,
To everlasting rest.

We weep, our hearts are breaking,
We smile and kiss the rod,
We know his spirit's waking,
In the paradise of God."
