E.T. Stoops.

Eugene T. Stoops was born May 3, 1850, at Selma, Iowa, and died Feb. 13, 1904, at Pittsburg, Iowa. He was married to May Dye Feb. 16, 1870, near Eldon, Iowa. To this union was added five children, three of whom are now living, namely, Lillian May Haney, Ralph Ovid and Leroy D. Stoops. Minnie E. and Warren T. Stoops died in infancy.

In 1886 while living in Cantril, Mr. Stoops united with the Christian church there to which he faithfully adhered until his departure from this life.

Mr. Stoops was a great sufferer for many years, gradually growing worse all the time, but with great fortitude and resignation to God's will he patiently endured his afflictions.

The death bed scene of Mt. Stoops was one that can never be effaced from the memory of those present. In the last 48 hours of his life he seemed to have opened to him the wonderful seems and glories of the Celestial world. The tremendous importance of salvation from sin seemed to come upon him with such force and power that though his physical frame was paralyzed and cold, and life almost extinct, there seemed to be some superhuman energy take hold of life's dying embers and in this state he prayed for his family and friends, calling each by name and affectionately commending them to the Savior who would save them, exhorting all to be true Christians; and now and then pausing for a moment and pointing upward, appeared to have caught a special glimpse of the beautiful of the beautiful scenes of paradise, and he would see the Saviour standing amidst the resplendent glories of that world.

Near morning of the 13th he told the bedside watchers that he would be called away at 1 o'clock and at 1 p.m. the power of further communication between this and the glory world ceased and he rapidly sank and at 2.20 p.m. the redeemed spirit returned to God who gave it, and his wife and children with many relatives and friends are left to mourn his departure.

But ought we not rather rejoice that he has been released from his sufferings here, and now, as a redeemed soul is basking in the esthetic joys and glories of the Sun of righteousness, having left for each a prayer and blessing and given us all a testimony of the blessed assurance of the power of Jesus to save to the uttermost, and this dying testimony should be the strongest incentive to action for each and ever one, and may this heritage prove a blessing of inestimable value to all whom came under its hallowed influence.
