MORTUARY RECORD.

Demise 0f Mrs. John Warner of Lebanon and Miss Mary Johnston of This Place.

Died at Lebanon, Iowa, Mrs. Julia A. Warner at the age of sixty-six years, one months and seventeen days. She was born in Rochester, Vermont, Sep. 27, 1835. In 1837 she came west with her parents, Mr. Newsom Guernsey and Mrs. Ruth Guernsey, who settled in Van Buren Co., Iowa, near Lebanon. She was married to Mr. John Warner Sept. 13, 1858, who died in 1890.

Born and raised a New England Congregationalist, she, with her Congregational church in Keosauqua, Jan. 1, 1860. When the Presbyterian church at Lebanon was organized they transferred their relations believing it better to belong to a church in the community where they lived. After casting her lot with this church, Mrs. Warner was ever a loyal member working for its interest and rejoicing in its prosperity as long as she lived.

She was for several years an invalid. Good company, ever interested in others, few knew how much she suffered. Hers was a quiet life, a devoted mother, pleasant and amiable in her family, winning in her ways. She gained hosts of friends. Perhaps her most prominent traits were cheerfulness under all circumstances and patience under affliction.

She left two brothers and one sister, two sisters having preceeded her to the spirit land with a few years.

She loved music. They were a musical family, and the brothers and sisters enjoyed singing together and others loved to hear them.

Dr. Guernsey of Lebanon, her brother, during her last painful illness, strove with great skill and rare devotion to alleviate her sufferings.

She left three daughters, Mrs. Ruth Moore, Mrs. Grace Beler and Mrs. Anna Roush. After her husband's death she lived in her old home with Mr. and Mrs. Roush who cared for her with rare devotion and tenderness.

The funeral was conducted by her pastor, J.A. Hahn, assisted by Rev. C.E. Perkins. The text was, "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints." The choir rendered three beautiful hymns, "Lead Kindly Light," "Nearer My God to Thee," and "Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me."

The large assemblage showed the esteem in which she was held by her friends and neighbors.

She crossed the dark river not unwillingly, many friends having heard her express herself as ready to go.
