DEATH OF ERASTUS ROBERTS

One of the Best Citizens of Our County Gone to His Reward - Came to Iowa in 1843.

Erastus H. Roberts was born in Morgan county, Ohio, Feb. 2, 1831, and died Aug. 20, 1907, aged 76 years, six months and 18 days.

In 1843 he came with his parents to Des Moines township, Van Buren county, Iowa, and was among the early settlers of this county.

On October 29, 1853 he was united in marriage to Martha B. Dille. To them were born five children, two sons and three daughters.

When 20 years of age he united with the Methodist Protestant church and until old age and infirmities came upon him was one of the leaders in the home church.

Over two years ago he was stricken with paralysis, since which time he had no use of his right side. During this time Bro. Roberts suffered terribly at times, but was remarkably cheerful. He looked forward most earnestly to the time of his release, not fearing death, but trusting his Heavenly Father.

Brother Roberts continued to live on his farm until about six years ago when he removed to Cantril. Since his affliction he has made his home with his son, John Roberts.

There remain to mourn their loss his aged wife, who has been by his side for nearly 54 years, two daughters, Mrs. Lois Shipley and Mrs. Matilda B. Ellis and two sons, Lawson and John, and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted at the home of his son, John Roberts, by Rev. H.F. Gilbert on Aug. 22. A large number of neighbors and friends were present.
