Mrs. A.J. Warner

Maria Swiers, oldest daughter of John and Ellen Swiers, was born near Lebanon, Iowa, January 11, 1856, and passed from this life at Cantril, Iowa, October 5, at the age of 82 years, 8 months and 25 days.

She was educated at the White school and the old Troy Academy and spent some time teaching in the early rural scholos(sp) of Van Buren county and also served as Buren county and also served as assistant postmistress of Douds-Leando. At any early age she united with the Methodist church at Lebanon.

She was married September 16, 1878, to William Robinson and to this union two sons were born, John, who passed away at Pampa, Texas, in June 1936, and Wallace, of Cantril. Mr. Robinson passed away in December, 1888.

In January, 1895, she was married to A.J. Warner, who passed away September 30, 1931. Her entire life, with the exception of a few years spent in St. John, Kansas, has been lived in Van Buren county. She was a loving mother and kind and indulgent grandmother. She was never happier than when little children were gathered around her and her great grandchildren were the joy of the last few years of her life.

She leaves to mourn her departure one son, Wallace, of Cantril, five gransons, Stanley, Vern, J.C., Emmett and Billy Robinson, and one granddaughter, Mrs. Eileen Parker; eight great grandchildren, three sisters and one brother of Portland, Oregon, and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by one step-daughter, Mrs. G.H. Jones of Rock Island, Illinois; two grandchildren, E.J. Davis of Cantril and Mrs. Carl Miller, of Rock Island, Illinois, and three step great grandchildren, all of whom she loved as her own.

To a host of people she was either known as Mother or Grandmother. Her thoughts, her words, and her deeds were only kind ones. Her's was a life of uncomplaining service and devotion to others.

Funeral services were held at the Cantril Christian church Friday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. A.M. Hadley of Milton. singing was by Wayne Powell, Dean Davis, Katherine Powell and Mrs. J.J. Hurwitz, with Mary Powell at the piano. Pallbearers were Larue Wilson, Rex Koontz, Chester Brown, Paul Brown, Swiers Brown and Foster Brown. Burial was in the Sunnyside cemetery at Milton.
