Wm. Spencer.

William Spencer of Cedar township, whose severe illness of bright's disease was mentioned last week, died Tuesday, March 4. Mr. Spencer had been a resident of this county more than 60 years. He was known to all the older settlers in the northern part of the county, and was held in the highest esteem by all. The writer had known him for more than 30 years. The Stockport News gives the following brief obituary of the deceased:

"Wm. Spencer was born Oct. 5, 1823, in Kentucky. In 1824 the family moved to Jefferson county, Indiana, where they remained till the fall of 1841, when they came to Van Buren county, Iowa, and settled on the farm which has since been his home, until his death, March 4, 1902, at the age of 78 years, 4 months and 29 days. Wm. Spencer's father, Absalom Spencer, died in 1873, his mother in 1870. William married Sarah J. Walker, March 18, 1865. To this union were born two children, Martin M. and Isabella. This wife and mother died March 23, 1870. On June 24, 1875, was married to Susan Shott, and to them was born one child, Will, who with his mother and the children of the first union, remain to mourn their loss. He has one brother living, the only one of the family remaining. The funeral services were held at Morris church at 1 p.m., Rev. Tennant preaching form Job 14-10. The remains were interred in Spencer cemetery, March 5, 1902."
