MORTUARY.
Death of Mrs. Vaughn, Mrs. Ryland, Mrs. Trumbo, and Mr. Charles Thomas.

Mrs. Luticia Vaughn died on the morning of March 16, 1899. She was 52 years of age. She was a daughter of John Black, one of the old settlers of Van Buren county, who, with his brother settled on the land on the south side of the river opposite Selma.

She was born on the farm where she died. She was a member of the Christian church and had been for 28 years. Her husband John H. Vaughn, died four years ago. One child, a daughter, is left to mourn the loss of her parents. She also leaves five brothers who were all with her during her last and painful illness and did all they could to comfort and relieve her of care for to them she had been a most devoted sister. She was aware of the approach of death and spoke of it and made her wishes known with all the calmness that a Christian can. She said to a friend, "There is only a veil between John and me, now it; will soon be lifted." She had no regrets about herself. Her only thoughts were for the daughter that was to be left just when she needs a mother's care. She was buried at McHugh cemetery near home and by the side of her husband and parents. This makes the third death within a year where the mother and head of the home has been taken from three adjoining farms. The first was Mrs. Wm. Dooley last May and only a few weeks since Mrs. Lloyd Nicklin and now Mrs. Vaughn. How little we know the future that is so wisely hidden from us.
