William Lloyd Pratt 1919-2016

William Lloyd Pratt, 97, of Bonaparte, died Thursday August 25, 2016, at University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City. He was born August 8, 1919, in rural Stockport to John and Anna Glascock Pratt and married Garnett P. Hainline April 12, 1941, in Memphis, MO.

Lloyd, as he was known to family and friends, had worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in West Burlington where he narrowly escaped death in an explosion. He had been a postal clerk and owned and operated Pratt's Tavern in Bonaparte for nearly 50
years.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Persia (now Iran) and was a proud member of Sargeant-Osweiler Post
No. 563, American Legion, Bonaparte, had been a member of the former Bonaparte Lions Club and was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs fan.

Surviving are a daughter, Donna Hall (Ron) of Iowa City, three sons, William Pratt (Marie) of Pueblo, CO, and John Pratt and Harold "Gene" Pratt (Bethany) of Bonaparte, nine grandchildren, and several great- and great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by four brothers, Floyd, Harold, Francis and John, Jr., Pratt.

Funeral services were held August 29, 2016, in Bonaparte Baptist Church with Pastors Mark Caston and Larry Wallingford officiating. Burial with military honors by Sargeant-Osweiler Post was in Bonaparte Cemetery. The procession was led by Iowa Patriot Guard.

Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua assisted the family with arrangements.
