Yvonne Harward 1931-2016

Yvonne E. Harward, 85, of Des Moines, formerly of Douds, went to be with the Lord in Heaven on August 31, 2016, at Taylor House Hospice, Des Moines. She was born January 3, 1931, to Hollis and Ethel Thomas Harward in Ottumwa.

Yvonne graduated in 1948 from Douds-Leando Consolidated Schools, received a bachelor's degree in music education (B.M.E)
from Drake University in 1952 and earned her master's degree in 1959. She utilized her education to teach vocal music and piano in Iowa, Michigan and Kansas. Yvonne was a lifetime member of Sigma Alpha Iota, sang in many churches and at recitals as a soloist. She loved fishing, quilting, gardening, bird watching, classical music and old hymns.

Yvonne is survived by her children Michael Johnson (Kris) of Altoona, John Johnson of Clive, Stephanie Johnson of Grimes,
three grandchildren, Alyssa Smith, Amanda Wager (Michael) and Haylee Simpson, three great-grandchildren, Asa Resh, Danley Ross and Avery Wager, a brother, Bob Harward (Mary) of Indianola, nieces and a nephew.

She had two mottos "Keep on trucking” and “What a country” and has written poems and stories about her life. Her relationship with God through Jesus Christ was the most important aspect of Mom.

In accordance with her wishes, Yvonne's body has been cremated. A graveside service was held September 6, 2016, in Leando Cemetery with Rev. Steven Benson officiating.

Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, assisted with arrangements.
